The Bushlarks choir for people with Parkinson’s and their carers/partners will start back on Monday February 1st. We’ve had a strange year, singing on Zoom for over 30 weeks because of COVID, but in November 2020 we felt safe enough to reconvene in our lovely rehearsal venue, St Simon’s Anglican Church, Kaleen. On our last day for the year we sang some Christmas songs and had a little party.
The Bushlarks choir is an opportunity for people to get together in a warm and friendly environment, and sing in a group! Not only is it fun, but the singing can help keep your voice strong, your lungs working and your spirits soaring. The choir is directed by Chrissie Shaw, local musician and performing artist.
We would like to welcome new members for 2021.
“Oh, but I can’t sing!!!” How many people are told by a teacher, by family members or thoughtless friends that they ‘can’t sing’? Who has been told: “just mime the words”, “keep it to the shower”, “put a sock in it!”Don’t let these comments stop you from trying, from setting your voice free! No-one is there to judge; we encourage everyone to give it a go. There’s safety in numbers, and you could be surprised just how much you can gain from letting your voice free to grow strong! The repertoire is eclectic, and suggestions for songs are welcome.
‘You don’t have to have a good voice – if you can make a noise you belong!’ PK
