We run or foster a variety of support groups:
- for all members
- for members with a special interest
- for carers.
General Support Group Meetings
We run two informal meetings a month to give all members the opportunity to exchange ideas and experiences.
These are held at the SHOUT Building (Pearce Community Centre), Collett Place, Pearce ACT.
- The daytime support group meets at 10am for 10.30am on the fourth Thursday of each month.
- The evening support group meets at 6pm on the fourth Tuesday of each month.
Occasionally the location and/or time might vary. If so that will be notified in the PACT Bulletin and/or in the News page on this site
Young Onset Group
PACT member Anthony Overs is looking to establish a Young Onset Group in Canberra. He would like to get in touch with other young onset people here with a view to having an occasional get-together (like the Young @ Park groups in other cities do). Anthony has set up a “Young at Park Canberra” Facebook group that young onset people would be most welcome to join; it’s a place to chat and share experiences.
Women with Parkinson’s
A monthly catch-up for women seeking to share their experiences of living with Parkinson’s.
Join us on the first Thursday of the month at 2.15pm at the Southern Cross Club, Macquarie (located opposite the Jamison Centre).
Carers’ Coffee Corner
Carers’ Coffee is a relaxed and informal gathering of carers who look after a family member or friend with Parkinson’s. Join us on the 2nd Thursday of every month at 2.30 pm, buy a cup of your favourite beverage, and have a short break among people who understand your situation.
The current venue is Yarralumla Gallery and The Oaks Brasserie (next to the Yarralumla Nursery), but we occasionally meet at the SHOUT offices if we have a guest speaker. The venue is advertised each month in the Bulletin, and members receive a reminder email.
This support group is for carers only, and only if they are members of Parkinson’s ACT or another state Parkinson’s group. Prospective members of PACT are also welcome to attend. It is open to men and women, but note that there is also a separate support group for Men Who Care.
Men Who Care
This informal meeting of men who look after a wife/partner with Parkinson’s is held from 3 to 4 pm on the 3rd Monday of every month at Sprout Cafe, Village Centre, the National Arboretum. We have a non-alcoholic drink of one’s choice, sometimes a bite to eat, and swap recent experiences, be they with MyAgedCare, care providers, residential aged care facilities (respite), and/or any other current concerns or funny stories we think might interest our fellow carers, or about which we’d appreciate their input.
This support group is for male carers only, and only if they are members of Parkinson’s ACT (PACT) or another state Parkinson’s group. Prospective members of PACT are also welcome to attend.
For more information about any of our events call the SHOUT office on 02 6290 1984.
